Founders Day
Each February we take time to celebrate the founding of the National PTA, February 17, 1897. Founders Day also gives us the opportunity to reflect back on where we have come from and to recognize those from past councils that helped us get where we are today. Another big part of Founders Day is to recognize some of the bright, shining stars of GCISD, both educators and PTA parent volunteers. This event can be a luncheon or dinner with a guest speaker, awards presentation and student performances.  Each local unit and several community businesses donate themed baskets for a Silent Auction with proceeds going back into our operating fund to help support Leadership Training, Parent Education Programs and Scholarship funds.

Reflections
This annual National PTA Fine Arts Contest is divided into six categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music, Visual Arts and Photography. Each local unit has the opportunity to run a school campus contest and judge their entries. Recognized entries advance to the Council level of competition. Winning entries then go on to State and finally the National PTA level. Council recognizes the winning entries at an annual awards ceremony. The 2009-10 theme is "Beauty Is..." For Reflections information, visit the Texas PTA website or the Reflections Guidelines page.

The GCISD Council of PTAs receives and reviews nominations for Council level awards to be presented to worthy individuals and businesses at the annual Founder’s Day luncheon held in February of each year.  Council awards are in addition to awards that are presented through your local unit.  They are best suited for those who work at the Council level, District level or across multiple schools.

Leadership Training
Offered at various times throughout the school year, these opportunities include Spring Officers and Chairmen Training, State PTA Leadership Training, Area 17 Training, Summer Leadership Seminar workshops in Austin, Presidents' Sharing sessions, and other workshops as needed.

Scholarships

Two scholarships are awarded annually, with one going to a graduating senior from each of our high schools, Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine High School. Donations from local PTAs, proceeds from the Friend of Children Award and contributions from local businesses and citizens help insure the fund's continued success for the graduating seniors of GCISD.

Candidates Forum
Held annually in April, the Candidates Forum gives GCISD patrons the opportunity to meet the candidates running for the School Board, and hear their responses to questions on issues of interest to the community. The Forum is moderated by the League of Women Voters.

Creative Problem Solving
PTA Council coordinates all aspects of Destination Imagination, and Odyssey of the Mind for all schools in GCISD; soliciting DI & OM student members and coaches for each interested campus, providing training for coaches and judges, and organizing the DI/OM tournament.
